Which organisations are covered by the Freedom of Information Act?

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 applies to public authorities and those providing services to them. A detailed list of public authorities is available in Schedule 1 of the Act but it includes amongst others: Government departments; local authorities; NHS bodies; the police; schools, colleges and universities; organisations such as the National Gallery and DBS.
