The following are examples of who can submit a Standard or Enhanced DBS check:
- Employers/agencies
- governing or regulatory bodies
- licensing decision makers
If the role is eligible for a Standard or Enhanced DBS check, the person making the suitability decision for a role can ask that the self-employed or freelance worker applies. If the organisation they work for is not registered with DBS, they can contact an Umbrella Body (UB) who will submit the check to us on their behalf. To determine if the role is eligible for a DBS check use our eligibility guidance.
You can apply via a recruitment agency or personnel supplier but only if the agency or supplier is also making the decision about whether you are suitable to go on their books to do the work.
However you can request a Basic DBS check online for yourself
